How to look good in monochromatic outfits

A common misconception is that monochrome dressing means wearing black and white. No, it is actually far from that. Let us explore together the meaning of monochromatic outfits and how you can look your best in them.

What is a monochromatic outfit?

Monochromatic  means

Mono = One
Chromatic = Colour

Wait!
It doesn't mean wearing the same color from head to toe. Don't make your assumptions yet!
Literally, monochromatic dressing can actually imply wearing the same color from head to toe, but technically it means more.
It means more because you can not imagine yourself wearing a red top, a pair of red trousers, red shoes, and a red cap, all in the same shade. It sounds really crazy.

On the other hand, it can actually mean wearing the same color from head to toe, only that it makes sense when it is done in different shades, tones, and tints of a particular color, yes, of just one particular color.

Color + black = Tint.
Color + white = Shade.
Color + grey = Tone.

This is the technical meaning of monochromatic.  Many people think it means exactly the same color head to toe, it can be, but it doesn’t have to be. No matter what color you choose, if you mix shades and tints of that color, it will always work together.

Cop this style if you are petite in nature, or you just want to appear slimmer and taller. Dressing monochromatically can make you appear taller and slimmer because the outfit is creating one seamless line from head to toe.

How to make your monochromatic dressing look great

Here are ways to make your monochromatic dressing look pop and juicy

Incorporate textures and different fabrics into your outfit.

You can do this with laces, leather, fur, feathers, embroidery, patterns, embellishments, sheer panels, etc. but always remember that they have to be in the same color palette. If your monochromatic outfit were comprised of the same fabric throughout, it would likely come off looking dull. Some combinations you can try pairing together are denim and chiffon, leather and cotton, suede and silk, wool, and sequins.

Dress to Enhance your Body.

Wear darker shades on areas you want to hide and lighter colors on areas you wish to accentuate and emphasize. For example, if you have very wide hips and want to hide them, you wouldn’t wear light-colored pants or skirts. More flattering would be the dark shade of the color on the bottom half and the lighter tint on top. Like dark denim on a very bright blue top or dark navy pants and a lighter blue shirt. This is one major reason why you should know your body shape, you get to know your body more.

Learn to add prints

Incorporate different print and pattern materials into your dress. An outfit can either be solid colored or print and pattern making. A solid-colored fabric is a fabric with no illustration or words written on it, just ordinary colored fabric, while the print and pattern dress has something on it, whether patterns or prints. An example is the African print, popularly known as the Ankara. So you can mix a solid-colored dress plus Ankara or any other type of print dress to come up with something beautiful.

Accessorize

My favorites are metallic-colored accessories. This includes silver, gold, aluminum, and the like. Anyways, do not be like me always. You can opt for accessories with the same color as your outfit and they can be in different shades and tints.

Print out your color wheel palette.

This is the best way to have a color palette without having to do a series of trials and errors on your outfit before deciding which is suitable to wear, it wastes time. An added advantage is that they are super affordable, usually less than a dollar. All you need do is check out the one that will be suitable for your online and just print it out, as simple as that! You can take them along with you when you wanna go outfit shopping. This will guide you in picking wear that will match what you have in your closet already. This is not stressful, I promise.
