How to take care of your shoes

 Shoe care

Ever been in a fix on how to care for your shoes but do not know how? Then dive right into this article.

Taking care of your shoes all depends on the type of material it is made from. Here is a list of materials that shoes can be made from and how you can take care of them.

1. Suede

This is a type of leather known as brushed leather and its qualities are noticeably different from regular flat leather. Brush to remove dirt and if the specks of dirt are hard to get off, use an eraser. White vinegar can be applied on this leather also with an old cloth to remove dirt (do not use dark vinegar because it will result in a stain).

2. Smooth leather

Apply an equal proportion of white vinegar and cold water to gently wipe away with a sponge soaked in water. Excess sunlight might affect leather so, air drying is the best alternative. To make it shiny, apply shoe cream or tinted polish.

3. Fabric or cotton canvas

Brush hard to take the dirt off first before making it wet to avoid dust absorption while wet. You can quickly wash in a washing machine. Ditch the cold water to avoid shrinkage since it is fabric-like.

4. Rubber shoes

It can be found in some white sneakers. Use acetone-free nail polish remover especially if it is a wet rubber or use a strongly diluted bleach. Bleaches can terribly eat up the material, so gently wash off after this process. It is possible that the shoe might be a mix of materials, say, a leather shoe with a rubber sole, ensure that you don't touch the other material because it will be too aggressive on it. If your sneakers comprise lace material, you can wash them in the washing machine, but do not put them in it directly, wrap it in a covering first before putting them inside.

5. Mesh shoes (running shoes)

It is not stable so does not machine wash it. You can put a detergent in water but ensure the detergent is bleach-free and apply it on the shoe with the help of a soft brush or an old cloth. Brush and wash the dirt away then rinse off with a sponge or cloth soaked in water.
